    • 1). Assume a steady firing position. Place your non-firing hand on the rifle's hand grip. Grasp the pistol grip with your firing hand and place your forefinger on the trigger. Press the butt of the stock against your shoulder. Firing can be accomplished while standing, sitting, lying or crouching.

    • 2). Aim the rifle. Your eye should be in line with the center of the rear sight aperture. The rear sight aperture is an iron ring located on the barrel of the rifle above the trigger. Center the front sight post within the rear sight aperture. The front sight post is a small bead located at the end of the barrel furthest from the stock. Gaze through the rear sight aperture down the barrel and focus the centered front sight post on your target.

    • 3). Control your breath. Breathe in deeply, exhale and hold your breath until you fire. Most of your breath should exit your lungs before you fire. Your shot should be taken before you begin to feel uncomfortable and you can resume breathing once you have discharged your firearm. Performing this step will ensure that the rifle will not move while firing due to movements caused by your breath.

    • 4). Squeeze the trigger. This is more difficult than it may seem. To compensate for noise and kickback, you will be naturally inclined to tense your muscles. This will cause your firearm to wobble and your shot to stray off target. Relax your muscles and pull the trigger back smoothly.
