How to Trim & Prepare Quince

    • 1). Place the quince into a colander and run cool water over them to wash. Hold each quince under running water and rub it briskly to remove the fuzzy layer from the quince's skin.

    • 2). Cut each quince in half from top to bottom and then slice each half in half again to make quarters. Remove the skin from the quinces by cutting it away with the knife. Cut out the core from each quince quarter and discard the cores.

    • 3). Slice each quarter into thin slices and place the quince slices into the saucepan. Add 1 quart of cool water, two cups granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1 teaspoon vanilla.

    • 4). Place the saucepan onto the stovetop and set the burner to "Medium-High." Heat the ingredients to a boil and reduce the heat to "Low." Simmer and stir the ingredients until the quinces are slightly pink and soft (15 to 20 minutes).

    • 5). Remove the saucepan from the burner and allow the quinces to cool completely. Drain the liquid from the quinces and use the quinces to make any fruit dessert, or serve the cooked quinces over frozen yogurt or ice cream.
