According to Adobe, the Dreamweaver CS3 academic version is identical to the commercial version in its functionality. Students can benefit from increased productivity of certain Dreamweaver CS3 tricks, such as the flexibility of the toolbars and the available operations for upload, download and editing utilities. These tricks not only save time, they also cut down on any difficulties one experiences when coding and editing a website. - The document toolbar, located right below the menu toolbar, is home to three workspace options most students and professionals find crucial in the Web design process. Known as Code, Split and Design, these functions enhance your ability to edit a Web page by giving you control over every aspect of your page. Choose the Code tab, and you can edit the HTML, PHP and CSS codes directly. Choose the Design tab, and you'll view the What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) interface, where the changes you make to pictures, text and layout are visible instantly. Finally, the Split tab allows you to see both the code and the design at the same time, so when you make changes to one, they're automatically reflected in both windows.
- The Windows library is located in the menu toolbar. This menu opens a vast array of Dreamweaver commands, including a CSS style editor, a history tab, local and remote file windows and more. These tools give you instant access to Web page elements you might ordinarily have to find manually by sifting through hundreds of Web pages. Use the CSS style menu to double-click and instantly edit each piece of CSS code in your website. Use the local and remote file windows to upload pages, download files and apply changes to your website. If you make a mistake, use the history tab to backtrack your steps and find which command you should undo to reverse the problem.
- Dreamweaver CS3 hosts navigation tools designed for flexibility. As you explore the software, you might want to rearrange the design tools to enhance your productivity. For example, the Insert menu, located underneath the document toolbar by default, is movable. Double-click the dotted lines on the left side of the Insert menu and it instantly becomes a pop-up menu that you can drag anywhere within the Dreamweaver interface. If you're working with several Web pages at once, the workspace can get cluttered, and moving the menu around can help you navigate to each tool more efficiently.
