Do You Ever Stop Being A Newbie?
I used to cringe at the term "newbie". I don't know why it bothered me so much but it did.
I think the problem is there is a negative connotation to the term. A lot of the "Gurus" (using that term SO lightly) almost spit the word out when they say it with so much disdain in their tone.
I get it - no one wants people muscling in on their "territory".
Now to be fair, I think the term itself is fairly innocuous. I think there are many people who use the term fairly, and it is a good quick describer for people new to an industry.
The question I have is when does someone stop being a newbie?
What moment is it? Is it the second they get their first cheque? Is it at $1000 earned? Is it some sort of weekly income? Is it earning a living?
I think I have figured it out - never.
I think the day you stop becoming a "newbie" is the day you begin to regress.
In such a rapidly changing environment like the internet, you should always be learning. You need to make sure you are ready for any change. This means you will or should be learning new techniques and methods regularly.
When you are new to a method or a technique you are essentially once again a newbie.
I have a friend who made millions in the adult industry. He built a multi-million dollar company, had been to the Playboy mansion multiple times and in general was widely known in the online adult world.
He decided to go mainstream a couple of years ago and suddenly after millions of dollars earned he was once again a "newbie". All it meant in his case was that he had just reinvented himself.
I had been making my living online for a couple of years when I decided to try my hand at a membership site. I don't know if there was a bigger newbie in the world than me trying to wrap my head around things like affiliate software, Digital Access Pass membership software and etc…
So next time you get offended by someone calling you a newbie - just shake it off. Everyone at one point was a newbie, and more importantly as you evolve and grow on this online journey you will be a newbie over and over again. Nothing wrong with that, it is just proof that you are growing.
