- 1). Dress in camouflage and find a place to stand or sit where squirrels are feeding in nut or cone trees. Watch quietly for a squirrel to move around a tree or run across the ground within 25 yards of your stand.
- 2). Take a stand and use a squirrel call to call squirrels to you. Sit or stand hidden against a tree or bush and work the call, all the while watching for squirrels to respond to it. This hunting method brings the squirrels within shooting range.
- 3). Walk slowly around bramble bushes, edges of fields and along fence rows overgrown with weeds watching for rabbits. Rabbits will jump and run, but stop after a short distance, giving you a chance for a shot. Peer into berry brambles to spot rabbits that are sitting motionless waiting for you to pass.
- 4). Ask permission of farmers or land owners to hunt pests on their property. Prairie dogs digging up productive land, pest birds eating crops, rats in barns and grain sheds are detriments to land owners.
- 5). Make head shots whenever possible to insure a clean and quick kill. The low velocity of a pellet often does not kill on a body shot.
