How to Kill Ants on Flowering Plants

104 5
    • 1). Look at the leaves on your plant, for a slimy substance called "honeydew." Aphids and other plant pests produce honeydew. If you see honeydew, you'll need to target the pest that produces it and not the ants. Treat these plants with a horticultural oil for aphids, scales and other honeydew-producing insects, and the ants will go away.

    • 2). Apply an ant insecticide to your plant to kill the ants. Follow the directions on your insecticide products, and use the dose range and treatment frequency suggested by your product.

    • 3). Set out ant bait or ant traps if this flowering plant is a houseplant. Ants venture from your plant to explore the area. Ant traps also kill new ants invading your home, before they set up camp in your plants.

    • 4). Repeat the horticultural oil, insecticide or ant bait applications until all ants die or leave.
