- 1). Click "Start."
- 2). Click "Computer."
- 3). Right-click on the icon for the drive you want to compress. Click "Properties."
- 4). Check "Compress this Drive to Save Disk Space."
- 5). Click "Apply." File and folder compression is now turned on for the drive, and you can now continue with the rest of the formatting process.
