How to Find a Canadian Telephone Number
- 1). Check your area's phone book for personal, business or government phone numbers. Personal phone numbers are listed in alphabetical order, starting with the person's last name in the white pages at the front of the phone book. Government department phone numbers are listed in the blue pages in the middle of the book, in alphabetical order. The yellow pages at the back of the book are reserved for business numbers, which are listed in alphabetical order by business type.
- 2). Log on to 411.ca to find the phone number of a person or business online. Select "find a person" or "find a business," depending on what type of listing you are looking for. Typing in the city or postal code of the person or business you are looking for will increase your chances of a successful search.
- 3). Dial 4-1-1 from your telephone to find the phone number of a person or business. An automated service will prompt you to state whether you are looking for a personal or business listing, the city and province where the listing is located, and the name of the person or business. You will then be connected to an operator who will tell you the phone number, if the search is successful, and offer to connect you for a small fee. Depending on your telephone service provider you may be charged a small fee for calling 411.
