How to Remove Rain Stains From the Carpet
- 1). Remove solids from the spill site first. Whether animal waste or a plate food, scrape up as much as possible.
- 2). Blot the liquid from the carpet. Do not rub, as this will only cause fiber distortion while doing little to remove the liquid from the carpet. Continue blotting with towels until only trace amounts of liquid are visible on the towel.
- 3). Apply a small amount of all-purpose carpet cleaner to a towel and gently work it into the affected area. Work from the outside of the spill to the center to keep it from spreading. If desired, the cleaner may be lightly misted onto the carpet using a pump sprayer. However, do not saturate the carpet.
If an all-purpose carpet cleaner is not available, make your own by mixing 1/4 tsp. of dish detergent into 1 qt. water. - 1). Scrape off any dried solids using a plastic spoon.
- 2). Apply an all-purpose carpet cleaning solution to a white towel. Gently work into the stain. Blot with a clean, dry towel. If the stain begins to fade, then repeat until it has been removed.
- 3). Rinse area with clear water by misting with a spray bottle. Blot dry.
- 4). Pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol onto a towel. Work into the spot, from the outside edge toward the middle. If the stain transfers to the towel, continue until it has been removed from the carpet.
- 5). Rinse area with clear water by misting with a spray bottle. If the spot remains, repeat Step 4 using peroxide. Test in an inconspicuous area to be certain the carpet will not bleach. Rinse with water and blot after using the peroxide.
