How to Add an Internal DVD Burner to Dell 9150
- 1). Turn off the computer, monitor and any attached peripheral devices. Unplug the power cord from the rear panel of the computer. Disconnect any cables attached to the interface ports on the front and rear panels. Press the power button on the front panel. Move the computer over to a stable work surface.
- 2). Tilt the computer over onto the left-side panel. Locate the latch installed in the rear edge of the right side panel. Slide the latch and lift the upper edge of the right side panel free of the computer case. Pull the bottom edge of the right side panel free. Set the right-side panel aside.
- 3). Find the sliding plate installed on the side of the drive bays, near the front panel of the computer. Slide the plate toward the rear panel and remove the drive panel from the front of the computer. Select an empty drive bay to hold the DVD burner.
- 4). Inspect the back of the drive panel and locate the attached screws. Remove three of the screws. Use the Phillips screwdriver to install two of the screws on the left side of the DVD burner. Install the remaining screw in the hole on the right side of the burner, near the front panel.
- 5). Examine the casing on the DVD burner and locate the diagram indicating the various jumper settings. Set the jumpers to the setting labeled "cable" or "CS." Slide the rear end of the DVD burner through the front panel and into the empty drive bay.
- 6). Select one of the unused power cables connected to the power supply. Plug the cable into the power port on the rear of the DVD burner. Locate an unused connector on one of the data cables connected to the motherboard. Plug the connector into the matching port on the rear of the burner.
- 7). Tuck the power and data cables into the case. Reinstall the drive panel and press it into the front panel until you feel it snap into place. Inspect the bottom edge of the right side panel and locate the three tabs. Insert the tabs into the slots on the bottom edge of the computer case. Press the top edge of the right side panel against the computer case until you feel the panel snaps into place.
- 8). Return the computer to its original location. Reconnect any previously disconnected cables. Turn on the computer and monitor. Insert the installation disc that came packaged with your DVD burner. Run the installer program and follow the on-screen instructions.
