About Heating & Air Conditioning Duct Work
- Duct blower fans generate substantial vibrations. Placing blower fans with proper spacing helps to reduce unwelcome vibrations. Rubber dampers placed near vibration sources also lessen the vibration impact.
- Checking for leaks is important during installation and repair. Leaks may generate from cracks near joints and bends. Temperature extremes may cause metal parts to expand/contract unevenly, helping to form small leaks. If the AC/heating equipment appears to be working fine, but there is reduced air flow in a certain part of the house, ductwork leaks may be to blame.
- Rigid ductwork is better for longer air conduits. Flexible ductwork can navigate difficult twists and turns better than rigid ductwork. In general, rigid ductwork is preferable for heating/AC applications. Flexible ductwork is less smooth on the inside, therefore more susceptible to stagnant air pockets that can collect dust, bacteria or allergens. Rigid ductwork is also made of stronger materials that make tears and leaks less likely.
