How to Color Duff Fondant

    • 1). Place plastic gloves on your hands for sanitary reasons and to prevent your skin from changing colors as you dye. Grab enough fondant to cover the desired cake. When using Duff fondant, an entire 2-lb. container covers a 9-by-13-inch cake. Knead the dough and roll it into a ball until the material becomes soft and pliable.

    • 2). Dip a toothpick into the color tint and place several evenly spaced dots on your rolled ball. With fondant, it's best to start with a little color and add more as needed. Going darker is much easier than trying for a lighter shade.

    • 3). Knead the fondant with your gloved hands until the tint looks like one even color. If you want a darker shade, complete step two once more and knead again until you get the color just right. If you add too much tint, use a bit of white color to lighten up the shade.

    • 4). Give your fondant color a metallic shine with luster dust. After applying the fondant to the cake, brush luster dust on with a blush applicator. For a bolder shiny color, mix about a 1/4 teaspoon of luster dust with three drops of clear vanilla extract. Then, simply use a small paintbrush to paint a design or spell words on the cake.
