The Capacity of a Flash Memory Stick
- As of September 2010, most companies manufacturing Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) cards have cards capable of holding 32GB of data. According to Kensington, a 32GB card can hold between 5416 and 15248 pictures, depending on the quality. The same card is capable of holding about 362 minutes of standard quality HD video.
- Another type of flash memory is the flash drive. This USB device is like a small-capacity, ultra-portable external hard drive. As technology advances, companies will be able to fit more and more storage space on these devices. Kingston has one of the largest available as of September 2010, with a 265GB storage capacity. Unfortunately, it will cost you more than some computers at $756.
- If you need something with more than 32GB of storage data, consider researching external hard drives. While not as portable, these devices typically are cheaper than flash drives with large capacities. For example, you could easily find a 250GB external hard drive for under $100, whereas Kingston's 256GB USB drive costs more than seven times that amount.
