Frigidaire Self-Cleaning Oven Tips
- Foods with high sugar or acid content may combust during the self-cleaning cycle, possibly dulling the finish of the oven. Use hot, soapy water to wipe way as much of the spills as possible before starting the cleaning cycle.
- Leaving the racks in the oven, while running the cleaning cycle, will remove the special coating that allows the racks to slide in and out of the oven. You should also remove any broiler pans, liners or aluminum foil from the oven.
- Use soapy water to clean the frame of the oven by hand before running the cleaning cycle. Remove any debris or food from the frame. Do not clean the woven gasket on the oven door; rubbing can cause the gasket to break down, resulting in poor oven operation.
- While the oven is cleaning itself, it will produce an excess amount of smoke and smell. Use an exhaust fan and open the windows to reduce the amount of smoke in the home.
- Due to the high temperatures used during the cleaning cycle, you may see flames in the oven. Do not open the oven door if this occurs: the flames will die down as they deplete oxygen in the oven. After the cycle has finished, open the door slowly, while standing to the side of the oven, to shield yourself from excess heat coming out of the oven. Wipe away the powdery ash with a clean cloth. Do not use any cleaning chemicals on the oven at any time; using oven cleaners will break down the coating and interfere with the oven's performance.
