Removing Standing Water

• 1). Get a water pump with a long drainage hose. If you do not have an immersible water pump, many stores will allow you to rent one. Set the pump in the water, and run the hose outside, as far from your house as you can. The further away you can get the hose, the less likely it is that the water will drain back into your crawl space.
  
  
• 2). Set up the pump according to manufacturer directions and turn it on. Check the level of the water periodically to observe the pump's progress. The length of time it takes for the water to drain will depend on the amount of water.
  
  
• 3). Clean up small pools of water with a shop vac. Use a wet/dry shop vac after the water pump has drained most of the water. If there is a lot of water remaining, you will need to empty the shop vac often.
  
  
• 4). Thoroughly dry the crawl space with space heaters and fans. Lay down scrap pieces of cardboard to protect the bases of fans and space heaters from any remaining moisture. Be sure that the surface of the cardboard is dry. Position space heaters in your crawl space with fans to help air circulate. Be sure there is no standing water near the devices or their wiring. Allow the space heaters and fans to run for at least 24 hours so that the crawl space is dried out.
