Specifications on the Farmall M
- The Farmall M's standard engine was a naturally aspirated four-cylinder gasoline motor with a 4.1-liter displacement. It had a piston bore and cylinder stroke of 3.875 inches and 5.25 inches, respectively, and operated at a compression ratio of 5.65-to-1. It operated at a maximum speed of 1,450 rpm and was kept cool by a liquid cooling system with a 24-qt. coolant capacity.
- In the latter half of the tractor's life, International Harvester offered a diesel version which, technically, ran on distillate. It was similar to the gasoline engine, but ran at a 4.75-to-1 compression ratio, or 4.5-to-1 with kerosene.
- Regardless of the engine installed, the Farmall M offered a sliding gear transmission with five forward gears and one reverse gear. It allowed for a maximum forward speed of 16.4 mph in fifth gear, and 3.1 mph in reverse. The Farmall M's power train generated 25 horsepower at the drawbar, and 31 horsepower to 33 horsepower at the belt.
- The Farmall M shipped with a weight of 4,858 lbs., which increased to 6,770 lbs. when it was fully ballasted. It was 133 inches long, 84 inches wide and 78.3 inches tall. It rode on 22.5-inch by 4-inch tires in the front and 51-inch by 8-inch tires in the rear.
