How to Keep the Nose Moist to Prevent Nosebleeds

104 3

    Steps to moistening your nose

    • 1). Buy any brand of Saline solution at your local pharmacy and follow the instructions for dosing. Saline thins the mucus, moistening your nose. Prices can range from $3 to $10, depending on the unit size.

    • 2). Operate a humidifier or vaporizer in your home. Humidifiers and vaporizers spray mist into the air, gradually creating a more humid atmosphere in your home. Heated homes in the winter can create the dry conditions that cause nosebleeds; a humidifier or vaporizer can help counteract the warm, dry climate.

    • 3). Turn down your thermostat to crack down on that nosebleed-inducing dry heat. WebMD.com suggests lowering the heat to between 60 and 64 degrees in a sleeping environment.

    • 4). Rub a thin layer of petroleum jelly inside the nose. According to WebMD.com, this will keep the area moist and pliant.
