How to Have a Mini Dance Marathon

    • 1). Set up an organizing committee for the dance marathon. Unless you stage the dancing marathon at home, for you and your friends only with no fundraising expectations, the event needs an organizing committee divided into three sub-groups: the supplies team, responsible for the food, drinks, sound system and decoration; the fund-raising team and the promotion team. Each group should comprise up to four members.

    • 2). Find an appropriate space to host the event. For you and your friends, the living room is sufficient, while the school or college campus indoor hall can stage marathons organized by a students' committee. Meeting venues in hotels are also appropriate, but they typically come at a high price.

    • 3). Arrange the date of the event. Since dance marathons can be physically painful for contestants, do not hold the event before a business or school day.

    • 4). Determine the cause you are raising funds for, such as to build a new laboratory at school, or donate the funds to specific charities. Sort this out before launching your promotional campaign.

    • 5). Print posters and flyers promoting the event. Each poster and sticker must mention explicitly the type of event, the venue, the date, the duration of the marathon, the entry fee, and -- if this is a fundraiser -- the reason for raising funds.

    • 6). Equip the venue with drinks and food for the event. Make sure you offer an adequate number of water bottles for thirsty contestants and a variety of drinks for guests. Chips and other delicacies can also satisfy your guests' appetites.

    • 7). Arrange the play list beforehand. The duration of the play list must match exactly the advertised length of the marathon; in addition, it should alternate between upbeat and slow songs, so that contestants don't collapse from exhaustion or become bored. Assign a DJ, who can take over when unexpected problems arise with the preset song list.

    • 8). Organize activities for guests who do not take part in the marathon, including a karaoke competition or simple cocktail mixing games at the venue's bar. Activities keep guests engaged, so that they don't get bored during the dance marathon.

    • 9). Order awards for the winners from a trophy store. Place a box at the entrance to collect donations; assign two guards to ensure the funds are safely deposited in the box.
