Wheel Supports
In order to transport the Rio Grande Project layout, four casters must be added to the corners of the open grid platform. Remember that in the storage / transport arrangement, the platform is on the bottom of the support frame / shell. This is a simple project that can be completed in an evening.
Materials
Making the Supports
Begin with four triangular corner supports. These supports were made on an 11 inch wide scrap of the same 3/4 inch plywood used for the remainder of the project. The supports could be made larger if desired, but they must be large enough that the wheels will clear the corner supports when the platform is in the display position.
Lay out the corner braces with a carpenter's square as had been done with the angle braces for the sides of the platform, minus the slots for the wood biscuits. Cut the four triangles on a miter saw or with a circular / jig saw.

Installing the Supports
- Position the triangle even with the top edges of the platform.
- Predrill and countersink a 3/16" pilot hole through the platform side and into the support.
- Apply a bead of wood glue to the support and hold in position while installing the first screw.
- With the support now in place, drill and countersink three more pilot holes and fasten with 2 screws (1 5/8 inch drywall) per side.
- Repeat for all four corner supports.
