DIY Wood Carts
- 1). Place the piece of plywood on a flat building surface. Set the 48-inch pieces on top of the plywood so they are resting on their 2-inch sides and are against the 48-inch edges of the plywood. Screw the pieces of 2-by-6 to the plywood by driving 1 1/2-inch screws, spaced 6 inches apart, through the bottom of the plywood into the pieces of 2-by-6.
- 2). Set the 21-inch pieces of 2-by-6 on the plywood, in between the 48-inch pieces and set against the shorter edges of the plywood. Attach them to the plywood in the same way that you attached the longer pieces.
- 3). Drill two vertical holes through the longer pieces of 2-by-6 into the edges of the shorter pieces of 2-by-6. Screw these pieces together by driving 2 1/2-inch screws through the longer pieces of 2-by-6 into the edges of the shorter pieces. This will connect all the sides together.
- 4). Turn the plywood base upside down. Place one of the caster wheels in each corner. Mark the location of the screw holes on plywood with a pencil. Remove the casters and pre-drill holes at those locations. Replace the wheels and attach them to the plywood by driving screws through the caster screw holes and into the plywood.
- 5). Place the hinge on the outside of one of the shorter pieces of 2-by-6. Screw one side of the hinge to the 2-by-6.
- 6). Drill a 1-inch wide hole through the piece of 2-by-4, three inches from one of the ends. The hold should be drilled though the 4-inch side of the piece of wood. Hammer the dowel into the hole so the 2-by-4 is in the center of the dowel. There should be 5 inches of dowel on either side of the 2-by-4.
- 7). Screw the end of the 2-by-4 opposite of the dowel to the other side of the hinge. This will attach the handle to the cart.
