What Is a Form I-797C Notice of Action?
- The USCIS may send Form I-797C to acknowledge an application has been received. The form may contain information regarding the next steps the applicant must take. It may also serve as a receipt for the payment of fees included with the application.
- The Form I-797C may be used to notify an employer or other petitioner of an action pertaining to a beneficiary. The beneficiary may be a nonimmigrant employee or a member of the petitioner's family, or the beneficiary may be the applicant himself. The petitioner may be the employer, a family member residing in the United States or the applicant.
- If the USCIS denies or rejects the application, it may also use Form I-797C to notify the applicant. The denial may result from an applicant's failure to meet immigration requirements but may also result from a failure to enclose the appropriate fees or supporting documentation.
