How to Use a Webcam as a Security Cam
- 1). Install and configure your webcam according to the camera's instructions.
- 2). Install and download the Dorgem webcam utility (see Resources for a link).
- 3). Run Dorgem. Select your webcam from the application's "Camera" drop-down menu.
- 4). Place the camera in the direction you want to view. Select "Preview" from the application window and adjust as needed. Selecting "Source" allows you to adjust brightness and contrast.
- 5). Select "Options" and check the box next to "Use Motion Detection." Click "OK."
- 6). Select "Selection Store Settings," then "File" and "OK."
- 7). Enter a name for the camera. For better reference, name it after the area you are monitoring. Check the "Enable" box. Set the interval to 2 seconds. Select the "..." button next to "Filename." Select a folder to save the images captured by the webcam. In the "Save As" dialog, set the file name to include "%g%G" at the end. These characters append a time stamp to each image captured. Hit "Save," then "OK." Click "Close."
- 8). Jump in front of the camera and do a dance, then check the folder you selected to save images. You should have some images of your dance. Your webcam is properly configured as a motion-sensing security camera.
