- 1). Right-click Avast!'s orange and white icon in the notification area and select "Open Avast! User Interface." Click "Real-Time Shields" in the program's left pane and select "Behavior Shield."
- 2). Click "Stop" to disable the service, or click "Start" to enable the Behavior Shield if you previously disabled it.
- 3). Click "Expert Settings" to change how the feature monitors suspicious behaviors. Click "Main Settings" in the left pane. Check or clear the boxes beside "Monitor the System for Low-Level Rootkits," "Monitor the System for Malware-Like Behavior" and "Monitor the System for Unauthorized Modifications" to enable or disable monitoring for these items. Click the "Action to Take" drop-down list and select the action you want Avast! to take when a suspicious behavior occurs. Select "Auto-Decide" to let Avast! select the best action, "Allow" to let the behavior occur normally, "Block" to prevent the behavior or "Ask" to get prompted to take an action.
- 4). Click "Trusted Processes" in the left pane to add any programs you want Avast! to ignore. Click "Browse" to select the program file you want to trust and click "Open" to add it to the list. If you want to remove a program from the list, click the program's name and click "Delete." Click "OK" at the bottom of the window to return to Avast! and to save your Behavior Shield settings.
