Government Funded Grants Scams

103 29
Government funded grant scams are found all over the internet.
They are flourishing as the current economic condition has made more people desperate for money.
The temptation of free money is hard to resist for them.
These scams promise you free money that was made available after the U.
S.
Congress passed the economic stimulus package.
The main targets of these scams are internet users who are contacted through e-mail or a plethora of online advertisements.
Telephone solicitations are also a very common method.
But, regardless of the method used, the end result is the same: People, lured by promises of free money, pay hundreds of dollars in up-front fees in exchange for fake grants leaving them more disappointed and poorer than before.
Here is how it works, you are asked to pay a small amount by credit card so that you can access the grant information.
But, the agreements have hidden in them enrolment to many paid programs which mean that eventually you lose a lot of money, sometimes even $1,000.
Apart from these websites, several e-mail frauds relating to the same topic have been reported to the Federal Trade Commission.
The e-mail that is generally sent asks you to provide personal financial details in exchange for the grant.
If you respond to this e-mail, it will lead to identity theft.
Prepayment frauds where promises of money (which never materializes no matter how hard you try) are made to influence people to part with their hard earned dollars aren't all that new.
The people who believed, did so thinking that they were getting loans at very good interest rates or were getting access to unknown, forgotten college grants or had won lotteries that they didn't even remember entering.
