Why Proper Diet and Exercise Are So Important for Marketers
I focus on a lot of marketing topics on the site.
I show you how to create new sites, find new niches and build your income streams in ways that will help your business take off with minimal investment.
All good stuff.
But, a major part of working at home is maintaining a healthy lifestyle that will keep you energized and active enough to do all that hard work and build your business in the direction you're aiming.
That's where diet and exercise come in.
This isn't just an "eat healthy" rant.
I know for a fact that I think and work better when I have a healthy, balanced meal and get out of the house to exercise regularly.
It's how our bodies work and it will help you as well.
So, what does a work-at-home diet consist of? Here are my thoughts.
Keep it Simple and Realistic Don't stop eating bread or eat only kale or drink only fresh juices because some celebrity said it's a good diet.
In reality, the best diet is a balanced one with fresh fruits and vegetables, a healthy amount of calories (2,000-2,500) and LOTS of water.
That's it.
Eat less junk food and if you can avoid it, don't eat anything with artificial ingredients or modified food products.
In short, steer clear of the prepackaged stuff.
There are things to be said for and against almost every type of food, but honestly, it's too stressful trying to keep up with every new rule that comes down from the dieting gurus.
If you eat healthy foods and moderate how much of them you eat, you'll do extremely well without having to starve yourself.
Activity on a Daily Basis And then there is the activity level.
Eating well won't do you any good if you sit at the computer every day and never get any exercise.
My recommendation is at least 15 minutes of heavy activity a day - ideally 30 minutes.
It could be jogging, cycling, a sport with your kids, or just a really long walk with the dog.
You don't need to go to the gym or run for five miles every day.
You just need to be active.
To supplement that for the work-at-home crowd, make sure you spend a few minutes of every hour getting up and moving around.
Don't just sit at the computer for hours on end.
I aim for at least 5-10 minute breaks every hour to stay limber.
Avoid Temptation Temptation is hard.
You'll feel the urge to bring a bag of potato chips or a soda to your desk with you, but avoid it.
If you must have a snack while working, get some carrot sticks and a bottle of water.
After a few days, you won't even notice the difference.
A good diet filled with healthy brain foods, lots of exercise, and a steady stream of breaks from your computer is not going to cut into your productivity - you can actually work less and get more done when your mind is clear and your body is healthy.
Keep it healthy and avoid the "desk-blues" and you'll be far happier in your work at home position.
