Where Do Turtles Live?
- There are eight species of sea turtles, and they are found in oceans and seas that are warm or temperate. Sea turtles have been known to migrate as far as 3,000 miles from where they were hatched.
- The largest freshwater turtle in North America, the alligator snapping turtle is found in the southeastern United States. Alligator snapping turtles live in rivers and lakes.
- Red-eared sliders are found in many places in the United States, and also in Mexico.
- Found in Burma, Thailand, South Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia, malayan box turtles live in the rain forest or rice paddies.
- The African mud turtle lives in Eastern and Southeastern Africa and Madagascar. They like shallow water and are found in ponds, streams and marshes.
