106 8

Do you have more email addresses than your Yahoo! Mail account's? Are you a blogger, friend, knowledge worker and cooking workshop organizer—all with a special email address?

An Email Address for Every You in Yahoo! Mail

Yahoo! Mail lets you wear all these hats. Whether you forward your mail to Yahoo! Mail from your other accounts, want to set up Yahoo! Mail to retrieve it using POP or just want to use an email address other than your Yahoo!

Mail address in the From: line when sending mail: you can set up Yahoo! Mail to let you send mail from any of your addresses.

Send Mail From All Your Accounts and Addresses in Yahoo! Mail

To add an account from which to send mail from Yahoo! Mail:
  • Position the mouse cursor over the gear icon (?) in your Yahoo! Mail toolbar.
  • Select Settings from the menu that has appeared.
  • Go to the Accounts category.
  • Click Add under Accounts.
  • Enter or edit your name under Sending Name.
    • This is what will appear in the From: line when you send mail and need not be your real name. You can use the role you're playing when using that account, for example, or your name and role.
  • Type the non-Yahoo! Mail account's full email address under Email Address.
  • Enter a name that helps you recognize the account under Description.
    • If you're short of descriptive names and ideas, try the account's email address.
  • Optionally, enter a reply-to address under Reply-To address.
    • Yahoo! Mail will automatically have entered your main Yahoo! Mail address in this field; this means replies to emails you send from Yahoo! Mail using the address you are in the process of adding will go directly to your Yahoo! Mail address.
    • To receive replies at your non-Yahoo! Mail address, leave empty the Reply-To address field or enter that address in it.
    • You can also enter any other email address under Reply-To address, of course.

  • If you want to retrieve mail (using POP) from the account into your Yahoo! Mail Inbox:
    • Make sure Set up to receive emails is checked.
    • Type the account's user name (often the full email address or the part of the email address preceding '@') under Username.
    • Enter the password for retrieving mail from the account under Password.
    • Optionally, choose a folder in which you want messages retrieved from the account and email address to be put automatically under Deliver email to.
    • Type the account's POP server the way you would in a desktop email program under POP server.
    • Make sure Use SSL is checked unless you know your account's POP server does not support secure SSL connections.
    • Make sure Use Filters is checked if you do want your Yahoo! Mail filters applied to emails retrieved from the account.
    • Typically, make sure Leave mail on POP server is checked so a copy remains on the POP server (and in the original account) for you to retrieve in other email programs or, perhaps, a web interface to the account.
  • Click Save.
  • If you set up an address you have not yet verified belonging to you:
    • Click OK for the note reminding you to verify the address belongs to you.
    • Close the Yahoo! Mail browser window.
    • Open the email message with the subject Please verify your alternate email address from no-reply@cc.yahoo-inc.com received at the address you've just added.
    • Follow the this link link in it to verify.
    • Click Continue.
