Why Do Bullets Sometimes Not Line Up As You Want in Outlook 2007?

    Mixed text

    • Bullets are dependent on their font. For example, bullets styled with Times New Roman and Arial fonts look different. When the fonts are mixed, often during cutting and pasting, those fonts can form discrepancies in the way bullet lists are displayed in an email. Ensure that the text is the same by using the text type box on the top part of your window.

    Formatting

    • Another primary cause of bad bullet syncing lies in formatting. Outlook has different styles for areas such as heading, body and emphasis and typing a bullet line in two types of formatting can result in irregular bullet lists. To rectify, be sure that the format box on the top part of the email window is consistent throughout the email.

    Graphics

    • Another area you should check is whether graphics within the email are causing the bulleted list to display incorrectly. Graphics such as pictures, icons and clip art take up space in emails and can mess up the code that organizes your email. Click the picture to shrink it down to resync your bullets. If that fails, you may need to cut the picture out of your email.

    Solution

    • A quick solution to any of the above problems is to open Notepad (Click "Start" and type "Notepad into the bar) and paste the offending bullet list into the window that appears. This strips the text of any formatting or special text. Next, paste the text from notepad back into Outlook, and this will make your Outlook bullet list sync.
