Treatments for Constant Sinus Infections
- Take a pain reliever and decongestant that is over the counter for headaches and sinus pressure from colds and allergies.
- Use warm moist air from a vaporizer or humidifier along with warm compresses for the swelling.
- Using prescription nasal steroids help treat and prevent inflammation caused by acute sinusitis. Prescription nasal corticosteroids such as fluticasone and mometasone are some that may help.
- Antibiotics generally are prescribed when acute sinusitis lasts more than two months. "The use of antibiotics for sinus infections are often not needed," according to the Mayo Clinic.
- Use a nasal spray that contain a decongestant. Using decongestant sprays longer can cause the congestion to return and be more severe or rebound congestion.
