    Pain Relievers and Decongestants

    • Take a pain reliever and decongestant that is over the counter for headaches and sinus pressure from colds and allergies.

    Vaporizer

    • Use warm moist air from a vaporizer or humidifier along with warm compresses for the swelling.

    Prescription Nasal Steriods

    • Using prescription nasal steroids help treat and prevent inflammation caused by acute sinusitis. Prescription nasal corticosteroids such as fluticasone and mometasone are some that may help.

    Anitbiotics

    • Antibiotics generally are prescribed when acute sinusitis lasts more than two months. "The use of antibiotics for sinus infections are often not needed," according to the Mayo Clinic.

    Nasl Decongestants

    • Use a nasal spray that contain a decongestant. Using decongestant sprays longer can cause the congestion to return and be more severe or rebound congestion.
