- 1). Don an old-fashioned pair of galoshes. These are designed to slide over regular shoes. Remove the galoshes when you're done gardening and your shoes will still be clean.
- 2). Slip a plastic bag over each shoe to protect the shoes from dirt and mud. Secure at the ankles with hook-and-loop cable ties designed for securing appliance and computer cords. Throw the plastic bags away when you're done.
- 3). Apply a layer of bark or rubber mulch to your flowerbeds. The mulch helps keep the beds from getting muddy and can be easily brushed from shoes if any sticks to them.
