Home Security - The Merits of Modern Burglar Alarms

103 8
For most working and middle class folk, their home is by far their biggest asset and that is without even considering the amount of valuables tucked away inside.
Indeed, most of all our other possessions ultimately become stored within our homes.
It makes sense then that we would want to protect our homes from vandalism, breaking and entering and indeed our possessions from theft.
Burglar alarms are by far the most effective way of taking care of home security, next to employing your own security personnel (which is hardly a possibility for most people).
Until around 20 years ago however, those little boxes which are now a routine sight were found only on the exterior facade of homes of the very wealthy.
The rest of us often struggled cover the cost of acquiring and installing such a system, or even justifying such an outlay when considering the relatively low quantity and/or value of possessions we might have had within our home.
The first burglar alarm we installed made for one heck of a burdensome task.
One which involved laying countless meters of wire within dedicated strips of conduit, endless drilling through solid plaster walls, wooden skirting boards and door frames and many sleepless hours spent fidgeting with complex electrical diagrams and screwdrivers barely big enough to handle.
By the time we had finished, although it worked flawlessly, we could not help but stand staring at what was in effect an vast, expensive electrical monstrosity.
We began to wonder if the cost and burden of replacing items in the event of a break-in would have been slimmer than the struggle we had just endured to make this system operational.
Times change however, and these days even the most minimalist of folk are in possession of more items of value than can be counted on a single hand - many of these being electrical appliances such as large TVs and computers.
Due to this, the question of whether a burglar alarm is necessary is now somewhat void of discussion - the answer is simply a resounding a "yes".
Fortunately, modern home security systems have come a long way since the aforementioned monsters.
Technological advances and increased product supply meeting the demands of the home security market have driven down costs to such an extent that burglar alarms are now accessible to all.
In addition to this, with the development of largely wireless systems, installation can be conducted by even the most incompetent of DIY'ers in a mere afternoon.
Given the rate at which we consume and acquire possessions in this day and age, it should be clear to you that a home security system would be a useful investment which can help protect your other assets, and give you a little extra peace-of-mind so that that you can enjoy yourself more when your home is left vacant.
