What Does It Mean When Your Dog Barks?

103 4
There has been a lot of explanation going on around the reasons and meanings of dog barking.
It has been commonly acknowledged that dogs can communicate with each other through this sort of 'language' - barking.
But besides all these, there are as well those signs known as the dog body language.
They can as well send various messages when lifting their tail up, or lowering it down.
Not to mention that also the movements of the eyes, head, and ears can be considered as part of the body language.
But let's go back to the origins of these species: wolves.
These wild animals are known to take out the sounds of baying or howling in some specific circumstances.
These sounds come in short expressions while with the dog barking there is a long rhythmical sound.
More than this, dogs are tempted to barking more often in a multitude of circumstances.
This is mostly attributed to the dog domestication.
Different types of dog barks have been identified:
  • The warning bark - is expressed under a low and quite bark, while the grumble can become stronger for in the end to turn into a howling growl.
This type of barking indicates a violation of the territory along with a possible danger that might degenerate from this intrusion.
It can also turn into a bare teeth showing if the danger persists.
  • The alarm barking - is manifested as brief barks from time to time and it will not stop unless some measures have been taken.
This alarm barking will result mostly from what dogs might hear but not that distinctively and as such merely alarming family members that there is a new noise in the 'hood', such as a car parking or a doorbell.
  • Sustained barking - is a type of barking in a continuous sound letting you know that your dog feels lonesome.
  • Yelping - is presented as a series of yelps that arise typically from being under pain and it is more intense as the severity of the pain goes.
  • The stutter barking - sounds like a broken bark in a lowered sound expressing the fact that your dog feels like playing.
With the ascending notes this barking will mean more excitement.
There has been a steady research into finding the reasons of dog barking, growling, whimpering or howling.
While reaching for finding various attributes to these sounds, it has been also acknowledged the fact that communicating skills are more complex than they were believed at earlier times.
For instance with a dog showing his bare teeth doesn't mean that this will always lead to an aggressive attitude.
With a dog snarling one might take it for a smile, but there is however a big difference between these two.
