Ford Saleen Truck Specs
- In 2007, Saleen had an arrangement with Ford Motor Company to modify its F-150 truck with more horsepower, torque, bigger tires and an aggressive body style. Ford sold the S331 through its showrooms as part of the truck lineup. The S331 ended after one year when the Saleen company underwent reorganization and changed its marketing strategy, concentrating on the Ford Mustang.
- The Saleen S331 stretches 233.5 inches front to back, 78.9 inches side to side and 71 inches from the top of the roof to the ground. The wheelbase is 144.5 inches with a curb weight of 5337 lbs. The weight distribution is 57.2 percent on the front axles and 42.8 on the back. The truck will tow as much as 9,500 lbs. and haul 1,350 lbs. in the cargo bed. The price of the 2007 Saleen was $53,999 for the normally aspirated, base model and $62,939 for the supercharged and fully optioned model.
- The V-8, 331-cubic inch, displacement engine produces 450 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 500 foot-pounds of torque at 4,000 rpm with a bore and stroke of 3.55 inches and 4.17 inches. The engine uses three valves per cylinder. The Saleen company offered a normally aspirated, three-valve S331 that produces 325 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 400 foot-pounds of torque at 4,000 rpm
- A supercharger draws in outside air with a twin-screw pump, compresses it, cools it with two intercoolers, sprays in fuel and pushes it into the combustion chamber. Compression heats the air and hot air isn't as dense as cold air and doesn't supply as much power. Saleen dealt with this common problem with forced air induction by installing two intercoolers that cooled the air and made it dense. Because the truck can use cool air instead of hot, the engine doesn't need as much air as most engines. The boost in the Saleen is only 5.5 lbs. per square inch when eight or nine psi is common. Superchargers run directly off the engine, through a belt, unlike turbochargers, which use exhaust gases. Superchargers produce a smoother more predictable boost to horsepower, but are more expensive than turbochargers.
- The Saleen mounts 305/40VR23 BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW-2 tires with a suspension that includes linear-rate, coil-over springs, gas-charged dampers, anti-roll bars and urethane bushings in front and a live axle, N2 shocks and leaf springs in the rear. The brakes are six piston front calipers, 15-inch rotors in front and 13.7-inch rotors in back, along with an anti-lock brake system.
