- 1). Spray down the infected grass with water from a garden hose. This method will wash away slime molds, as they accumulate on the exterior of the grass and are not firmly attached. It may reduce powdered molds, but full eradication will require additional effort.
- 2). Cut the fescue grass with a lawnmower so it is only 1 or 2 inches tall. This is the healthiest length for fescue grass, and cutting away the excess will remove the mold accumulating at the top of the grass blades.
- 3). Trim any surrounding foliage to reduce the shade in the area of affected grass. Additional sunlight helps eliminate powdered mold, since it reduces lingering moisture that the mold needs to survive.
- 4). Stop fertilizing the infected area of fescue grass. The fertilizer could provide nourishment to the infecting mold or fungus.
- 5). Apply a fungicide if maintenance measures are not working. Consider fungicides a last resort to killing off lawn infections.
