Handle Your Dog"s Sensitivity With Socialization
Your dog might be very sensitive about situations that are surrounding him and you have to figure out how to bring him out of his shell.
Now you can do several things to help bring him out of his shell to turn him into a social butterfly.
At times you will not want to have him as a social butterfly, but typically you will want him to be desensitized towards people so he will not be aggressive.
To properly desensitize your dog you will want to look into different programs that can help you.
However you are able to do some things on your own without having to pay money.
Here are a couple of the free methods that I have found to help desensitize your dog towards other people.
The first method that I have found to work out really well to desensitize your dog towards new people is having friends over.
If you have friends over that your dog has not met before then you will be starting the desensitize him towards people that you know.
This will help you to being able to desensitize him towards strangers so he will not be showing his teeth towards other people unless you tell your dog to.
Then after you manage to get him used to your friends you will want to start progressing in the desensitization of your dog.
I know with my dog I would start this step by taking him to the local pet store that would let me bring him in.
We would sit in the store or walk around the store for an hour or so each day that I took him.
The pet store employees helped with the desensitization of him by coming up to him and talking to him.
While the pet store was a great step he soon got used to seeing the same people all the time and was beginning to get bored of it as well.
So I had to step up and start taking him for walks around the local parks.
At times depending on how crowded the park was we would run into several people, but many days we would not run into another person at all.
Now this would be interesting and very helpful in getting him desensitized to more than just people, but also to new noises and scents.
Desensitizing your dog to people is a great idea.
However, you will have to determine which method will work best for you and your dog.
Remember that local pet stores are a great place to start and they will typically be more than willing to help you out during down times.
