How to Make Free Mailing Brochures

104 3
    • 1). Open Publisher and click "New." Click the "Publications for Print" link at the top and then click the "Brochures" option. Scroll through the pre-set options (don't worry if they're not exactly what you want, you can always make changes). Double-click a brochure to open it in your workspace.

    • 2). Notice the "Brochure Options" menu on the left side of the screen. Click "Include" in the middle box for "Customer address." This transforms the back panel of your brochure to ensure you have a place to put your mailing address and that of the recipient. Close the "Brochure Options" box by clicking its "X" to give you more room on the screen.

    • 3). Note that the brochure is built in two pages; look at the bottom left corner of your screen and you'll see a page 1 and page 2. Each is made up of three panels with two divider spots running vertically; this is to remind you where you'll be folding the brochure. The right-most panel on page 1 is the cover of your brochure. Double-click the dotted-line boxes to change the information, such as to add details about your company or service.

    • 4). Right-click the picture in that panel and select "Change Picture," then choose "From File." Browse to where you have an image stored for the brochure and double-click it and it appears in the old picture's place, automatically sized to fit. Repeat this process with all the clip art on the brochure on both pages. You can also add more pictures by clicking the "Insert" menu at the top of the page, then selecting "Picture" and "From File." Click the "Move" tool, which is a white arrow on the "Tools" palette on the left side of the screen, to move pictures into place.

    • 5). Click one time on any text box to highlight it, then immediately start typing, which erases the placeholder text. Change fonts as desired by highlighting the words, then clicking the text toolbar at the top of the page and selecting a new font, size or color.

    • 6). Add more text boxes to the brochure by clicking the "Text" tool, which looks like an index card with an "A" on it, on the "Tools" palette, then dragging a rectangle on the screen with your mouse.

    • 7). Change the color scheme to match your preferences by clicking the "Format" menu, then select "Color Schemes." Use the scroll bar to select a color scheme; note that any graphics you added such as photos will not change. Double-click a color scheme and your brochure automatically updates.

    • 8). Click back to page 1 and fill in the address information in the middle panel. If you're going to handwrite the addresses or have mailing labels printed out, click once on a text box to highlight it, then press the "Delete" key. Otherwise, type the addresses. One hint is to delete the recipient's text box, but type the sender information in, so you won't have to repeatedly write or sticker it when getting the brochures ready to mail.

    • 9). Proofread the brochure or have someone else give it a read over to catch any typos, grammatical errors or punctuation issues.

Load standard 8.5-inch by 11-inch copy paper into your printer and turn it on. Send the brochure to the printer by clicking "File," then choosing "Print." Select your printer from the drop-down menu and click "Properties." Depending on the options, select "Print on both sides" and click "On" or "Yes." Click the "OK" button to print.

Turn with page 2 facing up and fold the right panel in toward itself, then fold the left panel in on top of that. Your address panel is facing out on the back.
