Enjoy a Day at the Beach Stitching This Needlepoint Pattern

106 3
Who could resist this cool needlepoint design for a day at the beach? It’s inexpensive to make—only requiring a few strands of summer colored threads and leftover needlepoint supplies. The free needlepoint chart is simple and easy enough for a child to learn how to needlepoint. So, gather together your materials and use this needlepoint chart chart to stitch up a miniature version of your child’s favorite beach toys.

Charted especially Day 197 of the 365 Needlepoint New Year’s Resolutions Challenge, the 50 stitches wide and 41 stitches high needlepoint design measures 3.57 inches by 2.93 inches when worked on 13/14-mesh needlepoint canvas. Get the full size needlepoint pattern from the link at the end of this article.

To work the needlepoint design, choose odds and ends of threads and fibers as well as small pieces of needlepoint canvas available in your stash. Enlarge the pattern as needed by changing the canvas mesh size or adding a needlepoint border.

Finishing Ideas

The completed needlework would make a great drink coaster to take to the beach or a summer vacation home. It can also be finished into a novelty pin cushion, stand-up figure or even a mini pillow. Get as creative as you like with other ideas.

One of my favorite ideas is to place the completed needlepoint into a ready-made picture frame (without the glass) and embellish the frame with seashells collected during one of my family’s many trips to the beach.

It’s easy to do this since no special framing skills and techniques are needed—just a few shells, a bit of worn rope and other beach-themed trimmings.
