Weigh the chair. Most shipping services won't ship products weighing more than 150 pounds. A standard wheelchair generally weighs between 34 and 45 pounds.

    • 2). Fold the chair down to its smallest size. This is the form in which you'll be shipping it.

    • 3). Measure the height and width of the folded wheelchair. A standard wheelchair, folded, has the general dimensions of 9 inches wide by 36 inches tall.

    • 4). Find a box that will fit the folded wheelchair. Shipping services recommend a box at least 5 inches larger in both height and width.

Pack the box around the wheelchair with bubble wrap or foam. These types of packaging items can be purchased at a local retailer or post office.

    • 6). Tape the box securely with clear shipping tape.

    • 7). Write the address of where you want the chair shipped in the center of the box. Write your return address in the top left corner of the box. The postal service recommends using a dark-colored marker.

    • 8). Bring your packaged wheelchair to your local post office or shipping company location.

    • 9). Have the service double check that your packaging is secure. They will weigh the item and determine the proper postage or shipping fees.

Ask how long the item will take to arrive. Mailing it first-class ground will take longer than overnight or priority.
