103 3
Dog hip dysplasia is a condition that takes place when the hip-joints do not develop normally, causing the joints to become loose.
This looseness then leads the leg bone to move around more than usual, which consequently leads to painful wear and tear.
This affects the affected dogs' quality of life - their activity and mobility tend to decrease.
Thus, dog owners have to make sure that their pets get appropriate help and treatment.
So how can you give help to hip dysplastic dogs? The help that they need may depend on the severity of the condition, and the advice of their veterinarian should be sought before any treatment is given to them.
But, generally, exercise, diet, and hip and joint supplements may help provide treatment and relief for the condition.
One way you can help dogs with hip dysplasia is by taking them for a walk every day.
It should not take more than thirty minutes, though, as too much walking my put too much stress on their joints.
Swimming is another good exercise for them as it allows them to move their joints without getting too stressed.
Another way you can help them is by giving them proper diet.
Their diet should be high in protein and low in fat.
Also, make sure that you do not free-fed them because free-feeding may cause them to gain unhealthy weight.
Their being weight or obese may increase the severity of the condition because of the excess weight they are carrying.
You can also give help to dogs with hip dysplasia by adding a hip and joint supplement to their diet.
The supplement is beneficial for them as it has compounds needed to keep the joints and connective tissues healthy.
These include glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate, which provide lubrication to the joints and repair damaged or worn out connective tissues.
