- 1). Be sure the harness and cart fit the pony. Place the saddle, breeching and breast plate or collar on the horse. Tighten the girth. Check that the shaft loops are buckled.
- 2). Ask the pony to back into the cart so that the tips of the shafts are resting alongside the shoulder. Slip the shaft through the already buckled shaft loops or tugs.
- 3). Wrap the harness straps around the shaft several times (this strap hangs from the back band and attaches the shaft to the breeching). Buckle the strap to its keeper on the breeching.
