A Brief History It took almost a decade before Credit Suisse opened its first branch in Basel, Switzerland in 1905, while its first branch outside the country was opened much later, in 1940, in New York.
In 1978, the company started a co-operation the First Boston Corporation.
In 1989, CS Holding became the parent company of the group.
After several acquisitions (Bank Leu in 1990 and Swiss Volsbank in 1993) and strategic alliances (Swiss Re in 1994 and Winterthur Group in 1995) CS Holding became Credit Suisse Group in 1996.
In 2000, the group acquired Donald, Lufkin and Jenrette, an investment bank.
With it, the bank got hold of an e-commerce software portfolio.
Investment Banking The Credit Suisse Group is organized into three divisions: private banking, investment banking and asset management.
Its investment banking division is simply called "Credit Suisse.
" Its business unit is a major provider of full range of financial products and services in Europe and other markers.
