How to Build a Cabinet with Particle Board
- 1). Build a frame with the two 8-foot by 2-foot pieces (cabinet sides) and two of the 2-foot by 2-foot pieces (top and bottom). The top should fit in between the two side pieces and be even with the tops edges of the side pieces. The bottom of the frame should be offset from the bottom edges of the frame by one inch. Screw these pieces together.
- 2). Measure up 1-foot from the top of the bottom shelf in the interior of the cabinet. This is the location for the bottom of the second shelf. Place a 2-foot by 2-foot piece at this location and screw it into place.
- 3). Repeat Step 2 for all of the shelves in the cabinet. Make sure to measure up 1-foot from the top of every shelf to find the location of the bottom of the next one. Make sure all of the shelves are level and screw them into place. The top shelf will be bigger than the other shelves by 5-inches.
- 4). Place the piece of 8-foot by 2-foot 1-1/2 inch particle board over he opening of the frame on one side. This is the back of the cabinet and should completely cover the frame with the bottom edges even with the bottom edges of the sides. Make sure this piece is square and screw it into the frame around the perimeter.
- 5). Attach the interior hinges to one side of the interior of the cabinet. These hinges should be spaced 1-foot from the top and bottom of the cabinet and one should be in the center.
- 6). Attach the final piece of particle board to the hinges. This will be the door of the cabinet.
- 7). Attach the handle on the door on the opposite side of the hinges. Close the door and put the cabinet in its place.
