How to Make Colored Glass Windows
- 1). Cover the floor under your window with a drop cloth. Apply painter's tape to protect window frame and any woodwork.
- 2). Locate printable colored glass designs. Create templates by cutting out shapes from sheets of shirt cardboard, or trace the entire design onto your window using a grease pencil. If you choose to create your own designs, lay shirt cardboard templates over window and tape in place.
- 3). Use a brush or a piece of natural sponge to apply translucent window stain to open area on template. Allow to dry 4 to 5 minutes. Remove template, taking care not to create any drips or smears. Butt additional shapes against the first, taking care not to overlap any templates, until you have created your desired pattern. Fill in all areas of the same color, working from the lightest color first, through the brightest, then through the darkest. Allow to dry overnight..
If you do not wish to use paint, cut pieces of colored window cling to the shapes you need for your design. Wet clings and apply to window. - 4). Use foil tape, metallic ribbon or imitation leading to outline every section of the pattern. Attach tape or ribbon using instant adhesive. Allow adhesive to dry overnight.
- 5). Remove all painter's tape from window, wall and woodwork. Wipe away any stains, drips or smears using water or paint remover.
