How to Plant Red Clover Blended With Starter Fertilizer
- 1). Break up the soil in your planting area using a power rake. This will provide optimal surface contact for the seeds to settle into the soil.
- 2). Measure your clover seeds. You will want between 2 and 8 oz. of seed for every 1,000 square feet of planting area, depending on your desired level of saturation. Using 8 oz. per 1,000 square feet will result in the clover dominating the area.
- 3). Mix the clover seed into enough starter fertilizer to thinly cover the planting area. This will help spread the seeds evenly, as they are very small and can be difficult to distribute. Do not use a large amount of fertilizer as clover does not do well in heavily fertilized areas.
- 4). Spread the seeded fertilizer across the planting area evenly to avoid fertilizer pockets. Water the soil lightly, just enough to keep it moist. Maintain the moisture level in the soil until the clover is well rooted.
