How High Should I Mount My TV?

    Check Out the Lighting

    • If the room where the TV will be mounted has windows, it is important to make sure you do not hang the TV in direct sunlight. Instead, look to see where light falls in the room, and then hang the TV on the opposite wall. This should resolve any issues of glare while you watch TV during daylight hours. If your room has various angles of lighting during the day, you might want to consider a swiveling mount that allows you to move the TV away from glare.

    Eye Level

    • One recommendation is to hang the TV so that the bottom of the screen is at eye level while you are sitting and the top is at eye-level while you are standing. This may not be possible if your TV is exceptionally large or if you're hanging it over a fireplace. But finding a spot somewhere between these heights should provide a comfortable viewing experience. A second recommendation is to have the middle of the screen at eye level while you are seated.

    Avoiding Neck Pain

    • While it may be tempting to just hang your TV at picture level, look around your room first and determine where viewers will be seated. View the desired wall from several angles and from every chair in the room that would be utilized, including lying down on the couch or the floor. Place your head in a comfortable position, and look across the room. Take a pencil, masking tape or sticky notes and mark the wall so that you don't forget what you decided on once you start the mounting project.
