Colin Powell is really one of the most admired leaders in the world.
His style is being copied and written about in various areas all over the world.
The leadership of Colin Powell is certainly worth writing about.
To truly understand the life of a leader, his roots and his early exposure to leadership needs to be looked at.
His full name is Colin Luther Powell and he was born on April 5, 1937.
He was born in Harlem, one of the neighborhoods in the New York city borough of Manhattan.
His parents are Jamaican immigrants.
Yet, he has some Scottish and Irish ancestry.
He therefore came from a very culturally rich background.
When he was a kid, he attended Morris High School, which used to be a public school in the Bronx.
During his schooling, he learned to speak Yiddish because he worked with some Jews in a local baby furniture shop.
He finished Bachelor of Science in Geology from the City College of New York.
Although he had a C average, he pushed through and earned his Master of Business Administration from the George Washington University after his second service tour in Vietnam.
This sums up roughly the early life of Colin Powell.
Although he would rise up to prominence later in life, he still went through a pretty normal life as a child.
If you are also aspiring to be a leader, you don't have to be daunted! Just seek your gifts and your talents and for the opportunities to use them effectively.
"A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work," said Colin Powell.
This is very true! He is a living example of a man who worked really hard in pursuing his dreams and visions for himself and for the country that he loved.
As an African-American, he also saw what it was like to be discriminated against.
He felt the backlash of racism at an early age.
Yet, he did not let these difficulties derail him from pursuing his goals.
The leadership of Colin Powell was actually strengthened because of the trials that he had to undergo early in his life.
By the time he was chosen to become the State Secretary of the United States, his character, his views and his very life was already prepared for such a service.
True enough, there are people who disagreed with his policies and his strategies in waging the war of the United States.
Yet, he simply did his job and fulfilled the expectations from him.
In the end, he became one of the heroes of the United States war against terror.
(Not everybody will agree with the War on Terror but at least, Colin Powell also acknowledged the difficulties of this war.
