How to Make Rounded Edges on a Wood Bookcase

    • 1). Slide the shank of the roundover router bit into the cullet on the router. Tighten the cullet nut with the cullet wrench supplied with the router.

    • 2). Clamp a piece of scrap wood onto a workbench with clamps and place the router on its base, on top of the scrap wood. Position the router bit next to the scrap wood.

    • 3). Adjust the depth of the router bit with the depth adjustment gauge on the router so the top edge of the bit rests slightly above the surface of the scrap wood.

    • 4). Turn on the router and slide the bit into the wood. The bit has a roller bearing that will ride along the edge of the wood. Slowly push the bit along the edge of the wood. Turn off the router, allow the bit to stop spinning and lift the router off the base. If you are happy with the depth of the cut, move on. Otherwise, make additional adjustments until you are happy with the rounding the bit creates.

    • 5). Position the bookcase on its side and place the router base on the side of the bookcase so the router bit rests along the front edge of the vertical support. If you took the bookcase apart, clamp the first piece of wood to the workbench. Turn on the router and slowly pass the bit along the edge of the wood to create the rounded edge. Repeat this with each edge you plan to round.
