Going on holiday is one of the rewards of working hard all year.
It's essential to our well being and is one of the reasons for going to work every day.
One of the other reasons for working is so we can buy nice things for ourselves and our family, therefore ensuring that our belongings are safe and secure while we are away relaxing - after all you don't want to receive a call during your holiday or return home afterwards to find your home has been burgled.
Below you will find some great ways to keep your home protected during your absence.
It really doesn't take long for your home to be burgled, smart thieves can be in and out within a few minutes however most burglary is through opportunity rather than planning so ensuring you plan for your absence will reduce the opportunity.
House Sitter Having someone come and stay at your home during your holiday is a great way to keep the opportunists away, particularly as your housesitter will have a different routine to you, may even be on holiday and spend the majority of their time at the house, thereby reducing the chance of the property being broken into as the risk is far higher when someone is coming and going.
Additionally their car parked in the driveway, lights and TV on, and other signs of life will greatly deter the thieves.
Security Alarm Even if you choose to have someone stay in your home while you are away, installing an alarm adds another layer of security to your home.
Thieves are generally 'lazy' creatures and as such look for easy targets.
Homes with security alarms, which are clearly visible are given a wide berth by those looking for a property to break into.
They will simply move on to an easier target.
These days your alarm can also connect to your mobile or smart phone and alert you when the alarm is set and unset and when it has been triggered.
Therefore even if your home is vacant you can immediately be alerted to a potential break in.
Lighting If you don't have security lights, it's recommended to have these installed around the perimeter of the house, even in areas where you don't normally walk as a light going on in a strange part of the house will also act as a deterrent.
Alert the neighbours to the new lighting layout so they can also be aware of unusual triggers.
You may find your lights also assist the security of their house too which could benefit you both.
