How to Remove Masking Tape From Wood

    • 1). Fill the bowl with steaming hot water. You will want the water as hot as you can stand touching it but without scalding your skin. Dip the corner of the washcloth into the water.

    • 2). Hold the tip of the washcloth on the corner of the masking tape. Try to keep most of the water off the table and just place it on the masking tape. It needs to be on the corner so the end comes up a little bit. Hold the washcloth on the tape for approximately five minutes. You may need to dip the cloth back into the water to re-warm it.

    • 3). Remove the washcloth and roll your finger over the edge of the tape. The masking tape will start coming up. When you have it up far enough, grab the end and gently pull it off the wood slowly. Tape residue will remain.

    • 4). Use about a quarter-size drop of dishwashing soap on your washcloth. Gently rub the cloth over the masking tape residue. Remember not to use your fingernails or an abrasive cloth on the wood. It could become scratched.

    • 5). Rinse the washcloth in the hot water. Remove the soap from the table, still scrubbing gently. Then dry with your towel.

    • 6). Repeat steps 4 and 5 until the residue is no longer visible.

    • 7). Spray or rub the polish onto the wood, pay special attention to the area where the masking tape was. Work the polish into the table with a circular motion. You should now have a shining finish.
