Maine Coon Cats Picture Gallery: Muffin

Muffin was born on May 31, 2005. He is a pure bred red and white Maine Coon from the Kinneycoon Cattery in Michigan. The full blood brother of Biscuit, who is seven months his senior, Muffin has enjoyed all the love and protection one can get from having a devoted, older sibling. When I first brought Muffin to the house (he weighed 3 pounds at the time), I intended to tuck him away in my bedroom, where he would be safe.

Before I could close the door, Biscuit pushed his way through my legs, leapt onto the bed, and began grooming the baby. When he and Muffin emerged, two weeks later, Biscuit made it very clear to the other two cats that they were to treat this new arrival with the utmost respect. Muffin still has another year to grow, and he now weighs 21 pounds!
The loveliest thing about Muffin is that he smiles and "sings" as he goes about the house. It is the happiest sound imaginable. When he was little, he spent the better part of his days on his hind legs, chasing whatever feather I had the energy to wave. Recently, a friend sent us a tunnel, which has filled my fluffy feline friend with delight. Every night he waits for me to scratch the surface, while he curls the tunnel into a U shape and tries to get me. He also loves to race through it at top speed, which is very impressive because there isn't any headroom.

When he's not playing, grooming with his brother, or chasing the pesky Korat, a feisty 10-pound Aries who also lives with us, Muffin is cuddling next to me on the bed.

He loves to be kissed and petted. He particularly enjoys bussing my nose, which I also enjoy, now that I know he's not going to bite it! When I go to sleep at night, Muffin always pokes his head under the pillow where I hide my head, to make sure I'm okay before he curls up next to me.

But he's not just a pretty face. When our 18-year-old DSH died this June, his eyes filled with huge tears. Two months later (that's 8 months in cat time), he's finally returning to his joyful, boisterous old self, and so, to celebrate, I took this picture of the day the tunnel came in the mail.
